It is not unusual for a new homeowner to have pride in their house and invite people over to celebrate.  When you are invited to one of these open houses it is traditional to bring a gift along for the new home however figuring out what to bring can be a headache.  It seems that people already have what they need and traditional housewarming gifts don’t always seem to fit.  If you’re looking for a unique housewarming gift here are a few ideas to get your creative ideas flowing.

Gift Cards for restaurants.  Moving takes a lot of work and the unpacking can take weeks.  A gift card gives the home owner an opportunity to get out of the house for a little while and relax.

A magazine subscription to a home decorator magazine or some other type of home magazine would be something the home owner could enjoy all year long.  Use a current issue of the magazine with a ribbon around it to present the subscription gift.

If you know the address of the house you could purchase the house numbers to hang above the garage or on the side of the house.  There are a variety of stands that can be added to the front garden that hold house numbers as well.

Some fun address labels with the new address as well as a couple of note pads with the new address would be helpful especially if the new homeowner sends out change of address cards.

A house maintenance and memory book is a fun and unique house warming gift.  This is usually a spiral bound book with places for the homeowners to write a maintenance schedule for varies areas of the house.  It also provides places for them to record work that they have done to the house – painting rooms, additions, and other projects.  You could order one online or create your own.

If you want to be a little different and know when moving day is you could fill a cooler with ice and cold drinks and drop it off at the new house with a note.  The cold drinks will be appreciated throughout the busy day.  Just be sure that if they are at the new home working you don’t stay around for more than a few minutes so they don’t lose too much time socializing.
